I knew nothing about Short Term 12 before watching; only hearing about it due to a followed critic placing it on his top ten of the year list. The fact that it never came to my local theaters, was ever advertised during trailers, and took me this long to hear about it is completely unforgivable (on both the theaters and my part). By the first few minutes I was hooked in by the film’s premise; through the 20 minute mark I became enthralled by its characters and plot. The more the film progressed the better it got (and it started out on a fairly good basis). By the time the credits began rolling my face had sprouted a grin going from one side of my ear to the other; and this wasn't any ordinary smile, it was the after smile of having just experienced one heck of a great movie.

My Choices for Top 7 Worst Films of 2013 (Film List)
So it’s come to the end of the 2013 and the beginning of a new year; a time where people create end of the year lists celebrating the best, and bashing the worst. Of course when it comes to lists opinions vary and emotions can run wild if one’s favorite movie ends up on one’s worst of list (it always happens). So I find it important to express these three statements before making a worst of list:
Top 5 Personal Annoyances of the Oscars (Film List)
Let’s just be clear here, everybody has his/her own opinions on what were the best films of the year and what were the worst. The Oscars are never going to be able to appeal to everyone’s opinions when it comes to which films get nominated (or which films win for that matter). That being said, for a ceremony trying to represent the best of the year, the Academy Awards can really make some horrible decisions on what films to elect and (often more infuriatingly) what films to snub. For example, we have nine films chosen to represent the best of the ENTIRE YEAR (its actual slogan is “Recognizing the year’s best films”), and yet not a single one was wide released in the U.S. before October! Take a look;

The Wolf of Wall Street (Film Review)
Author’s Note: FYI, I am planning on making a best of 2013 list; however unlike most people who release them at the end of December, I will be releasing mine at the end of January (or beginning of February). Just like my mid-year list, the reason for this is because many great 2013 films are released around the very end of December to mid-way through January where I live (heck, Her and August: Osage County just got a limited release today!) So instead of making them 2013 leftovers for the 2014 year (which is what I’ve done before), I’m instead going to count January as a 2013 month; allowing me to see any late releases as well as catch up on noticeable films I missed seeing.
