Moana (Film Review)

Moana is, naturally, going to be compared to Frozen.  They’re both Disney animated musicals, they’re both CGI, and they’re both critically acclaimed.  Frozen was a monster of a musical, however: making over a billion dollars, ranking as the highest grossing animated film of all time, and being the first Disney animated musical to receive a theatrical sequel (not counting the DisneyToon sequels…).  Such magnitude puts a ton of pressure on Moana, and while the film has paled in comparison regarding box office profits, I regard it as the superior animated musical: musical being the key term.

Doctor Strange (Quick Review)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has, since Phase One, followed a near-consistent pattern of releasing good quality films—not great, not awful, but good. 

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Film Review)

Rogue One is the second Star Wars film made under the ever-growing movie monopoly known as the Walt Disney Company.  There’s several comparisons to be made regarding this film and The Force Awakens: both having a female lead, an avoidance on heavy-bearing romance (two modern Disney themes also shared by the company’s latest animated features), and being an overall solid, yet flawed addition to the Star Wars universe.  Conversely, there are numerous differences between the two films: with Rogue One succeeding in areas Force Awakens fell flat, and Force Awakens’ stronger points being some of Rogue One’s weakest.  When examining both overall, however, Rogue One ends up winning as the superior Disney-Star Wars film, if only by a slight margin.
