Muppets Most Wanted (Film Review)

So how do you start off a Muppet sequel?  Easy, simply make it a “literal” sequel; complete with a sequel song, sequel satirizing, and mercilessly acknowledging that it’s in fact the “seventh sequel to their original motion picture”.  Muppets Most Wanted begins directly where its 2011 reboot, The Muppets, ended; with our cast of critters wondering what’s going to happen next…that is until they notice that the camera’s still rolling.  Statler and Waldorf point out the “terrible” realization; “Oh no, disaster! That can only mean one thing…It looks like they've ordered a sequel!”  I love the Muppets’ crafty use of Meta-Humor, its wittiness, catchy songs, and of course its ability to make sock puppets into living, three dimensional, characters I as a spectator love and care for.  Muppets Most Wanted hits all these points fairly well; creating a solid sequel worthy of the Muppet title.

Disneynature's Bears (Quick Review)

Disneynature’s Bears is the seventh film of their “nature series” released so far, yet the first I've ever seen in theaters.  My fiancée and I were coaxed into seeing it 50% for the bears and the other half for the promise that part of our ticket purchase would be donated to the National Park Foundation (during its opening week).  Despite the partial guilt tripping, Bears turned out to be a sincerely enjoyable experience.  The simple story (narrated by John C. Reilly) follows a mother bear (Sky) and her two cubs (Scout and Amber) an entire year as they traverse throughout an Alaskan wild life preserve.  Similar to Disneynature’s earlier productions, the film’s setting is absolutely breathtaking; showcasing beautiful scenery such as snow-white mountain ranges, meadows full of vibrant flowers, and aerial views of beach-side mud flats.  The film’s isolated setting possesses a tranquil feeling that could have simply worked on its own, but then of course the film wouldn't have been called Bears.

So I've been meaning to review Muppets Most Wanted for a while, but before posting the review I thought I’d try something different.  Since their debut in the 1950s, the Muppets have had television shows, movies and even their own web series.  Their comedy and charm has touched upon generations of kids, adults, and families alike.  Thus I thought it’d be fun to write a (somewhat) tribute towards the Muppet films by making a list of my top 5 personal favorites.

Noah (Film Review)

If I’d seen Noah without any previous knowledge, and then been informed that Darren Aronofsky (director of such films as Requiem of a Dream, The Wrestler, Black Swan, etc…) directed it, I would find that statement very farfetched.  That’s not a criticism of the film (in fact Noah’s quite well made), it’s simply an observation.  From the very beginning Noah’s theme of epic biblical action (a phrase not often seen together) hardly resembles anything Aronofsky's made before; having little resemblance to his earlier films except in one major area, the torment of our main character.
